    • Securing and producing SPF mini pig resources and supplying it to industry, academia and research institute
  • Standardization of mini pig resources and management
    • Maintaining standard level of primate resources by monitoring germ, virus and general health indicators and establishment of standard operation policy (SOP) for the growing and managing primate resources at the international level
  • Research on heterogeneous transplant
    • Transplanting organs of germ-free transformational pig to SPF primate (ex. pancreatic islet, heart) and analysis on the effectiveness and safety of transplanted organs
  • Research and application of regenerative medicine
    • Development of artificial blood and bio organs and conducting effective evaluation using mini pig resources
  • Evaluation of pre-clinical effectiveness of newly developed new drug candidate
    • Application of various bio medicines and bio materials to SPF mini pig to evaluate effectiveness
  • Development of disease model
    • Development of application technology for new drug and research on organs and regenerative medicine by developing rare disease model of mini pig which have the most similar metabolic route to that of human
  • Cooperation and support for domestic researchers related to mini pigs
    • Providing technology and information related to management and facility of mini pigs to other researchers and conducting joint research to develop relevant technologies
Achievements
  • Securing mini pig resources for research purpose
    • We are heavily dependent on imported mini pigs for research purpose and we can use the mini pigs only to a certain research. Our center secured 100 high quality mini pigs for research purpose to be utilized in domestic advanced bioengineering research including bio new drug, organs and regenerative medicine
  • Establishment of base technology for whole cycle of production of transformational/cloned mini pigs
    • Our center successfully produced transformational mini pig, which is a core element of biomedicine research including bio new drug, organ and treatment of rare disease. In particular, we established the whole lifestyle base technology to produce transformational/cloned mini pig including disease gene vector production, transformational somatic cell line establishment, transformational cloned egg production and transplant, diagnosis of pregnancy, child bearing, breatfeeding and basic expression type analysis laying the foundation for developing world-class mini pig infrastructure
  • Establishment of infrastructure to utilize future animal resources
    • Establishment of the world¡¯s first mini pig and primate complex SPF nurturing and test facility, advanced analysis equipment including MRI, Angiography and FACS and research facility with biosafety grade 3 (ABL3) for research on responding to national catastrophic infectious disease and common infectious disease for both human and animal securing the base for the commercialization of advanced bio engineering products including development of bio new drugs, organs, heterogeneous transplant, stem cell treatment and vaccine development.
