The power to make people smile The power to make the world a better place Biotechnology upholds human welfare and the nobility of life. Towards a future of hope, the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology. Through continuous research and by challenging life itself, the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology seeks a better tomorrow the very essence of Biotechnology. The Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, established in 1985, has grown into a world-class research institute through leading innovations in biotechnology, including research and development in bioscience, the development of original technologies and infrastructure support for bioscience research at home and abroad. KRIBB has also challenged the future of humanity toward excellent research outcomes, including finding the genes responsible for preventing the activation of stem cell aging and stress (Choi, Inpyo), decoding the tomato genome (Hur, Cheol-Goo) and clarifying the origins and genetic diversity of Asians (Yoo, Hyang-sook). With the development of a subminiature SPR bio-chip analysis system, we are leading this new ubiquitous era. Furthermore, we have published an extensive number of excellent articles in journals, like Nature and Cell, and have also contributed to world biotechnology development by registering many novel patents. With the effort of researchers who put their energy into their work, it has become possible for us to prevent sorts of intractable diseases from spreading and make an early diagnosis of them. Furthermore, it enables us to make our future life abundant along with the extension of the life expectancy. The Institution for the Research of Bioengineering in Korea as the center of high-tech bio-research fields makes every effort to see the fruits of our labor along with a few thousand researchers. The Institution for the Research of Bioengineering in Korea now operates five specialized research centers to perform the roles of a forward base for the creative economy coping with socially pending issues as follows: a research organization of genome developing the technology of personalized medicine through the application of big data to a genome and understanding of the function of it. a research organization for the fundamental mechanisms of aging and the translational application for aging-related diseases to extend human healthy lifespan. a research organization to apply bio-fusion technologies to develop bio-diagnosis/sensing devices and synthetic biological tools. a research organization of a bio-medicine study developing new bio-therapeutics substances for the treatment of intractable diseases. a research organization of a biorefinery study for the industrialization of developing innovative biotechnology. Plus, there are organizations operated as follows: a headquarter of future technology to search for a new bio technology; a headquarter of bio infrastructure to strengthen the international competitiveness of life resources as well as industrialization in both domestic and international bio study. The Institution for the Research of Bioengineering in Korea not only operates the center of practical creative technology taking the lead in future creative economy but also accelerates the development of technology for the daily use of bio medicinal substances in connection with minor enterprises as well as industrial-educational cooperation by steering new enterprises. Along with them, the branch of O-Chang in Choongbuk Province has been proceeding research to pave the way for bio-medicine platform and pipeline; the branch of Jeonbuk Province has been supporting developing new technologies and the practical application of regional strategy for bioindustry as well as the development of environmentally friendly bio-substances. The wider and more prosperous dream, our dreams are invariably open toward the world. The Institution for the Research of Bioengineering in Korea makes closely united efforts with that of Max Plank Institute in Germany, Buck Institute for Research on Aging in America, including that of Physico-chemistry in Japan along with about 140 organizations in 30 countries all over the world. ¡îMoreover, we manage overseas biological centers in China, Costa Rica, Indonesia and Vietnam to globally broaden the boundaries in studying biological species as a prerequisite step for BT industry. The world economy¡¯s new growth engine, Biotechnology! Amidst never ending competition, the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology has stepped forward as a professional institute, leading innovations in world biotechnologies based on creating new growth engines, propelling the national agenda and supporting the expansion of an advanced infrastructure. KRIBB will speed up our researches in the field of a genomics, anti-aging, fusion biotechnology, biomedicine, biochemistry and others. In addition, as the only one donated by the government, we will perform our duties by publically contributing the development and upbringing new industry such as a disease, environment, food. Science of Humans; Science for Humanity As biotechnology develops and brightens humanity¡¯s hope, it is no longer just a dream. The hope for a rich and healthy life is now closer to reality. Our dream for future, The Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology will transform the world to build a better tomorrow.
