On July 10th, 2013, the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience & Biotechnology (KRIBB) and the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) signed an MOU at the KRIBB's Ochang Branch Institute.

At KRIBB's Ochang Branch Institute on July 10th, representatives from KRIBB and IBS including KRIBB's President Tae Kwang Oh, IBS' President Se-Jung Oh, and Director of IBS' Center for Cognition and Sociality Hee-Sup Shin signed the MOU  for brain science research. Through this MOU, KRIBB and IBS aim to establish an organic cooperation network for mutual growth in bioscience sector, thus enhancing their R&D competitiveness in bioscience.

Under the MOU, the research infrastructure of KRIBB such as the 'All-in-one Research service system', which encompasses supply of SPF(Specific Pathogen Free) primate resources/miniature pigs and support for experiment, is combined with the outstanding research capabilities of IBS where Dr. Hee-Sup Shin, a world-renowned expert in brain science, heads the Center for Cognition and Sociality. Therefore, the two Institutes expect that the MOU will create a significant synergy effect.

KRIBB will offer and share the research infrastructure of its National Primate Research Center with IBS, in order to conduct experiments with primates (e.g. monkeys) that have the most similar gene sequence to the gene of humans. Based on this mutual cooperation, KRIBB plans to conduct a more in-depth research of brain science.
