The 16th Korea-Japan-China Bioinformatics Symposium 2018 image
The 16th annual bioinformatics symposium co-organized by Korea-Japan-China’s national research institutes took place in Sokendai, The Graduate University for Advanced Studies, Hayama, Japan from August 29 to 31, 2018.

In 2001, bioinformaticians of Korea and Japan came to an agreement to hold a bioinformatics training course in order to educate students during the 4th Korea-Japan Science ad Technology Forum in Seoul, Korea. Based on the agreement, the first training course was held in the following year in Japan.

From the 5th course that was held in 2006, they expanded to include Chinese bioinformaticians as well and since then, three countries have taken turns hosting the annual bioinformatics symposium. The representative institutions from each country is as follows:

 
- Korea : Korean Bioinformation Center (KOBIC) at Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB)
- Japan : National Institute of Genetics (NIGS)
- China : Shanghai Center for Bioinformation Technology (SCBIT)
