About 100 participants including government officials related to the management and utilization of bio research resources, people from organizations responsible for bio research resources and experts attended the workshop from Jan. 30 to 31, 2018.
The workshop was composed of the session to identify the future course of development of bio research resources in relation to the 4th industrial revolution (convergence and innovation) (Day 1) and share examples of utilizing bio research resources (Day 2).
At the workshop, strategic response to changing research environment in the face of the 4th industrial revolution was identified, experts from various disciplines held a panel discussion and experiences of utilizing bio research resources in the industry were shared.
It is expected that the workshop will promote the importance of linking bio research resource information and vitalize communication by strengthening network among industry, academia and research and ministries.
This workshop has been held annually for the purpose of presenting ways for the development of domestic bio research resources and promoting the utilization of bio research resources since its first workshop in 2015 based on Article 11 cooperation among domestic and overseas institution for bio research resources information of the Act on the Acquisition, Management and Utilization of Biological Research Resources.
KOBIC is in charge of establishing information linkage system and providing the foundation for integrated service for the purpose of utilizing bio research resources efficiently at the national level by managing information on bio resources, biodiversity and life scattered across many ministries and research institutions in an integrated manner.
Under the Article 11 of the Act on the Acquisition, Management and Utilization of Biological Research Resources (enacted in May 2009), KOBIC was designated as a national information center of biological research resources (designated in Mar. 2010) and accordingly, Korea Biological Information System has been established and operated. In addition, KOBIC plays the role of secretariat of consultative body of organizations responsible for bio research resources established for the purpose of technical cooperation, information sharing and linkage under the Article 6 of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Acquisition, Management and Utilization of Biological Research Resources.
